Bicolor Tourmaline & Multicolor Tourmaline

Bicolor tourmalines can be pink and green, pink and colorless, brown and green, or blue and green. Some stones have more than two colors. Clean bicolor tourmalines are very rare. The most valued stones have distinct saturated colors with sharp boundaries and eye-flawless.

Watermelon Tourmaline

Tourmalines with a pink center and a green rim, or vice-versa, are called ‘watermelon tourmaline’. The coloring resembles the pink flesh and green rind of a watermelon. The watermelon tourmaline crystals are often cut cross-section into thin slices to show a distinct concentric triangular or hexagonal pattern where a pink core is surrounded by a green rind. An eye-flawless faceted watermelon tourmaline that has a strong red and green in approximately equal amounts is the most sought after, and will command the highest price.
